Marc Bolan & T.Rex
IMHO this shows why it's best Marc never went back to try and record his "Children of Rarn" in 76' (as he was planning), The magic lies in the gentleness of the song as you can hear Marc was trying to Move it into a Funk mode?
It is still a gem to have and see how Marc ended up viewing the song.......I guess it lost all the magic for him it had when he first wrote it -as the x-pression goes "you can never go back". I remember, years ago, first hearing that there was a tape with Marc doing bits of "Rarn" in a rock/funk mode and I didn't believe them (shows never take my advice)*s. I will tell a quick story as told to me by Tony Visconti. The Year they parted wayes Tony said he asked/told Marc to "take a year off' , "Learn a few more chords", and come back and work on "Children of Rarn" the fans would embrace it.
We all know this was not to be & Tony left Marc (for this & other reasons). The irony is that in the end Tony did finish "Rarn" for Marc. This version can be found on the LP/CD "Marc Bolan -Words & Music 1947-1977"
